The department of “Geophysics”

The department of “Geophysics” was established in 1947/48 within the faculty of “Geological exploration” at Azerbaijan Industrial Institute. Establishment of this department is connected with the importance of geophysical methods during the search and exploration of mineral ore and hydrocarbon fields of fossil fuels.

At present 1 academician, 2 professors and 7 assistant- professors are engaged in scientific – pedagogical activity. There is also a “Seismostratigraphical laboratory” within the department.  The majority of department employees have been involved into scientific research in the laboratory mentioned above.

The department has already been functioning throughout 68 years and during this period 12 doctoral and 54 post-qraduate theses were successfully defended. S.Y. Litvinov (1952-70), I.O. Tsimelzon (1970-1972), K.D Jafarov (1972-1985), R.A Abdullayev (1985-1991), P.Z. Mamedov (1991-2016) Seyidov V. M. (since-2016), supervised the department over the last 68 years.

The department closely collaboraties with several international and European scientific industrial institutions and companies. Professor P.Z. Mamedov is the current member of International and European geologico-geophysical associations and societies.

Nowadays high quality specialists are trained both on bachelor and master stages on “Geophysical Engineering”.
