ASOIU’s Commitment to Gender Equality and Women in STEM

Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) is committed to promoting gender equality and empowering women, particularly in the STEM fields. Recognizing the critical role of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, ASOIU has implemented various initiatives to attract and support female students and staff.

Our Initiatives:

  1. Policy on Gender Equality: ASOIU upholds a comprehensive policy on gender equality, ensuring that all women, regardless of their background, have equal opportunities in education and employment. This policy is designed to foster an inclusive environment that supports women's full participation in academic and professional activities.

  2. Mentoring Scheme for Women: We have established a mentoring program specifically for women at ASOIU. This scheme pairs female students and staff with experienced mentors who provide guidance, career advice, and support, helping to navigate challenges and achieve professional growth in STEM careers.

  3. Progress on SDG 5 (Gender Equality): ASOIU is dedicated to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5, which aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Our annual report highlights the progress and achievements in this area, detailing initiatives, partnerships, and outcomes that contribute to reducing gender disparities in education and the workforce.

  4. Gender Pay Gap Report and Continued Commitment to Equality: At ASOIU, we understand that gender pay equity is a crucial factor in fostering a truly inclusive and fair working environment. In line with our commitment to gender equality, we have published our Gender Pay Gap Report 2024, reflecting our ongoing efforts to reduce pay disparities. The report provides an in-depth analysis of the gender pay gap at ASOIU, detailing both mean and median figures, and highlighting our proactive steps in narrowing this gap. Notably, we have seen a significant reduction in the gender pay gap from previous years, with the median pay gap decreasing from 16.1% in 2023 to 12.1% in 2024.

This achievement is part of our broader strategy to ensure equal opportunities and fair compensation for all staff, especially women, within our institution.

For further information on the gender pay gap legislation in Azerbaijan, we also provide direct access to the relevant national laws and regulations that guide our practices in this area.

In addition to our internal initiatives, ASOIU acknowledges the broader context of gender equality efforts in Azerbaijan. The country has implemented various measures to promote gender equality and empower women, including the ratification of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women in 1995.

Furthermore, the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children Affairs of Azerbaijan plays a pivotal role in regulating activities for the protection of women's rights and overseeing non-governmental organizations involved in family issues.

These national efforts complement ASOIU's commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment for all.
