Global demand for energy consumption makes it important to think sustainably. Demographic growth in developing regions, economic rise of China, growing demand in Africa and Latin America bring even more competition in securing energy resources long-term. Higher Education Institutions play a crucial role and become ever important institutional players in helping depict ways meeting the energy demand more sustainably. Owing to its mission and vision ASOIU has long been planning to make a strategic move in building synergies through actionable cooperation for sustainable development.
Having thoroughly analyzed potential cooperation formats among Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in Europe and the rest of the world, the leadership of ASOIU has come to a conclusion that sustainable initiatives, including the ones that are green energy driven and technologically based, can be realized by mutual committments and associative agreements. This is a consensus conclusion which is confirmed by many scholarly articles.
Universities have the core responsibility to promote a systemic approach in relation to the multiple societal challenges and to influence policy makers, but the leadership for SD implies the ability to build partnerships with other universities and networks of shared value with all relevant stakeholders of sustainable development.
With this perspective in mind on October 25 202, ASOIU leadership in conjunction with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) brought together Batman university from Turkiye, Tashkent Institute of Chemical Technology from Uzbekistan, AUEZOV University from Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan Technical University from Azerbaijan to sign a contract for establishment of the "Association of Energy Universities of Turkic World States". This contract coincided with an International Scientific-Practical Conference titled "Energy Locomotives of the Turkic World," dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye which was commenced in ASOIU.
The Rector of ASOIU Associate Professor Vazeh Asgarov expressed his assurance that the newly created association would be a valuable contribution to collaboration among Turkic nations in the energy sector, especially in transitioning to green energy.
Green energy transformation is definitely a global issue. The Rectors’ Conference in Europe has put it nicely together that sustainable development can only be achieved through a wider cooperation among HEIs.
With that in mind, finding a common ground among regional universities for a faster transformation towards green energy helps build a working model the outcome of which is equally beneficial not just within the perimeters of the region but all around the globe. Hence, the establishment of the "Association of Energy Universities of Turkic World States" will catalyze the transformative path to a greener future globally.
