On October 17 Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) held an event dedicated to October 18 – State Independence Day of Azerbaijan.

Opening the event after the national anthem of Azerbaijan Republic, ASOIU's Rector, Professor Mustafa Babanli congratulated the event participants on the occasion of National Independence Day and spoke about the country's independence history. Speaking about the importance of October 18 for the people of Azerbaijan, Rector, Professor M. Babanli characterized the events occurred in 1991 and historical decisions of that period as an important factor for our statehood. Speaking about the efforts of the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, to make the state independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan eternal and irreversible, Rector Mustafa Babanli stressed that thanks to President Ilham Aliyev's services Azerbaijan is now one of the most developed countries in the world. Rector, Professor M. Babanli noted that each citizen should fulfill certain duties for increasing the power of the Republic of Azerbaijan as an independent state.

MP of Azerbaijan Republic, head of ASOIU's department, Professor Huseynbala Miralamov spoke about the importance of the history of state independence and evaluated the October 18 as one of the most significant events in our history.

Head of ASOIU’s Social Studies Department, Professor Jamal Mustafayev spoke about the sacrifices of Azerbaijani people for the sake of independence and preserving of the independence of Azerbaijan.
