ASOIU commemorates victims of Khojaly genocide

On February 25, Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) held an event dedicated to the 29th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide. The academic staff of the university joined online the event attended by student from Khojaly and their parents. The event began with a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide.

Speaking about the crimes committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis in different periods of history, ASOIU's Rector, Professor Mustafa Babanli described the Khojaly genocide as one of the worst tragedies in the history of independent Azerbaijan. Rector M.Babanli characterized the Khojaly genocide as a crime committed against humanity, and underlined that this massacre will always be remembered as the mournful event in the history of Azerbaijan. Noting that the far-sighted policy of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the heroism of the Azerbaijani Army and the iron fist of Azerbaijan have liberated our lands from occupation which lasted 30 years, Professor Mustafa Babanli stressed that the souls of those who became martyr in Khojaly will rest in peace with this victory.

Then the witnesses of the Khojaly genocide spoke about the bloody events, the horrors committed against their relatives and family members and shared their bitter memories of 29 years ago. They noted that their long-awaited dream had come true, and that the liberation of our lands from occupation in 2020, 28 years after this bloody tragedy, was an invaluable consolation for them. ASOIU's student from Khojaly, Aytaj Guliyeva spoke about the horrors she heard from her parents and teachers about the genocide.

Noting that she did not quietly watch the war for the liberation of our lands, which began on September 27 last year, Aytaj Guliyeva said that as a young person, in the information war along with her fellow students and friends responded to the Armenians and did her best to support the homeland and the Azerbaijani soldier. Aytaj Guliyeva said she will continue her future activity as a highly qualified specialist in Khojaly and live and work there.
