ASOIU's Rector meets with the new Director of the British Council in Azerbaijan

On September 6, Rector of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU), Professor Mustafa Babanli met with the newly appointed Director of the British Council in Azerbaijan Francis Gardener-Trejo and the former head Samr Shah.

During the meeting, Professor M.Babanli provided information to the newly appointed Director about the activities of the university, referring to the large-scale cooperation between the British Council and the university. Rector M. Babanli said that the project implemented between the British Council in Azerbaijan and ASOIU in 2019 aims to enhance the English language proficiency of teachers and engineering students, 90 teachers and 200 students have significantly improved their knowledge. Speaking about the project to assess English language skills with Aptis tests for teachers and students, which came into force in May 2021, Rector Babanli said that 80 teachers participated in intensive courses within the project. He also spoke about the upcoming work and new projects. The Rector noted that with the support of the British Council, in the next summer session of the 2021/2022 academic year, about 3,000 students will take a language test based on the Aptis tests.

The newly appointed Director of the British Council in Azerbaijan F. Gardener-Trejo stated that he intends to further expand cooperation between the British Council and ASOIU, noting that he will support the implementation of new projects with the university.

At the end of the meeting, Rector, Professor M. Babanli thanked Samr Shah for supporting the development of bilateral relations in education and reciprocal cooperation during his tenure and expressed hope that relations with the new leader will further develop.
