On March 31, the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) hosted an event dedicated to March 31 - the Day of the Genocide of Azerbaijanis.
The event began with the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan and a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the March 31 genocide and the martyrs who died for their homeland. The event was attended by ASOIU Rector, Professor Mustafa Babanli, academic staff and students.
Speaking about the history of the genocide on March 31, the Rector, Professor M. Babanli, said about the vandalism committed by Armenian nationalists against Azerbaijanis throughout history, noting that the March 1918 massacre, in its cruelty and scale, became one of the bloodiest tragedies in the history of humanity. Stressing that the genocide had a severe impact on our material culture, Rector M. Babanli said that the Armenian vandals, who brutally killed thousands of Azerbaijanis during the March pogroms, destroyed many historical buildings, monuments and shrines, the Ismailiy building, one of the pearls of world architecture, was bombarded with artillery fire.
Professor Jamal Mustafayev, Head of the Department of Humanities at ASOIU, spoke about the purpose, nature and history of the centuries-old policy of genocide and aggression of Armenians against the Azerbaijani people.
Speaking about the fact that the March 31 genocide will never be erased from the memory of the Azerbaijani people, Rufat Rustamov, Chairman of the ASOIU SYO, noted that young people have an essential role to play in conveying these historical truths to the world community.
