On April 15, the Rector of the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU), Professor Mustafa Babanli, met with the Head of the National Hydrometeorological Service under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Umayra Tagiyeva and the delegation.
Professor Rauf Aliyarov, the Director of the Scientific Research Institute "Geotechnological Problems of Oil, Gas and Chemistry" at ASOIU, Professor Latafat Gardashova, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs, the executor of scientific and organisational work of HPC Center, Nigar Ismailova, Elviz Ismayilov, Technical Director of the HPC Center and guests attended the meeting discussing the cooperation possibilities.
Welcoming the guests, ASOIU Rector Professor Mustafa Babanli informed them about the University's High-Performance Computing Center. He emphasised that the centre has great potential in solving scientific and technological problems in the country related to high-performance computing and in various fields of science where computer calculations are used, such as weather forecasting and staff training.
U. Tagiyeva, the Head of the National Hydrometeorological Service, expressed satisfaction with the cooperation with ASOIU in her speech. She noted that they would make every effort to develop partnerships with the university in technology and personnel training, including developing local programs related to weather forecasting.
In conclusion, the parties signed an agreement on cooperation in education and scientific and technological development.
It should be noted that the agreement provides for the development of a Computing Platform for the implementation of weather forecasting models in Azerbaijan at the ASOIU's HPC Center through the National Hydrometeorological Service, the introduction of relevant weather forecasting models, and the development of a particular weather forecasting model for the entire territory and individual regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In addition, the agreement provides for the implementation of training by the proposals of the National Hydrometeorological Service, a program of mutual industrial and scientific internships, and cooperation in scientific research on the principle of co-leadership.
