On June 23, the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) hosted an educational event on "I choose my future", dedicated to June 26 - International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Speaking at the event, ASOIU Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs, Associate Professor Ata Babayev, greeted the event participants on behalf of the Rector, Professor Mustafa Babanli, and then a minute of silence was honoured in memory of our heroic sons who died in the Patriotic War.
Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs, Associate Professor A. Babaev, spoke about the harm caused by drug trafficking to society and people's health and stressed that youth awareness plays a significant role in this struggle.
Speaking about the importance of anti-drug measures, Mugamat Aliyev, Chairman of the Public Association "Young Patriots", said that drug addiction, which has become the scourge of the 21st century, is widespread in our country, and a large number of young people suffer from it and related diseases. Then M. Aliyev informed the participants about the work done within the framework of the "State Program to Combat Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Their Precursors and Drug Addiction for 2019-2024", approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the project's goals.
Then an employee of the Public Association, Shahin Aliyev, spoke about the importance of propaganda against the spread of drugs among young people and protecting a healthy lifestyle.
In the end, the participants' questions were answered, and certificates were awarded to students who actively participated in the event.
It should be noted that to constantly attract public attention to drug-related problems, the UN General Assembly in 1987 declared June 26 as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Traffic.
