ASOIU holds performance based on “Vagif” drama

On November 28, the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) hosted an event dedicated to the Shusha Year called "Shusha - the beating heart of Azerbaijan".

At the event that began with the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the martyrs who gave their lives for the liberation of Karabakh.

Head of the Department of Social Sciences of ASOIU, Professor Jamal Mustafayev, who opened the event with an introductory speech, said that large-scale events were organised in connection with the announcement by President Ilham Aliyev of 2022 as the Shusha Year. International scientific conferences were held at ASOIU within the Shusha Year. Speaking about the history and development of Shusha as the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, Professor J. Mustafayev said about the many years of hidden and open struggle of hated enemies to capture Shusha and Karabakh, about historical truths.

Then the Executive Director of the Institute of History of ANAS, PhD in history, Jabi Bahramov, spoke about the history of the Shusha and the etymology of the toponym "Shusha" and its historical surroundings.

ASOIU teacher Vafa Abbasova made a presentation on the literary and cultural environment of the city. It was noted that Shusha, the land of the most cherished and significant history of Azerbaijan, gave birth to many famous thinkers, poets, and artists, such as Molla Panah Vagif, Suleyman Sani Akhundov, Khurshudbani Natavan, Yusif Vazir Chamanzaminli, Uzeyir bey Hajibeyli, Harrat Gulu, Khan Shushinsky, Bulbul, Rashid Behbutov.

Later, a five-act performance based on Samed Vurgun's drama "Vagif" staged by ASOIU students was shown. Even though there were students studying engineering and technical faculties, they enthusiastically played exciting and dynamic characters. In the play, which aroused the public's interest, the socio-political processes of that time were demonstrated at a high level through images created by students.
