Information event on CanSat Azerbaijan 2023 competition for ASOIU students

On December 21, an information event for students was held at the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) dedicated to the CanSat Azerbaijan 2023 model satellite competition jointly organised by the Space Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Azercosmos) and the Ministry of Science and Education.

At the event, Nigar Aliyeva, PMO (Project Management Office) Manager at Azercosmos, made a comprehensive presentation on the activities of the institution she represents, as well as on the CanSat model satellite competition. N.Aliyeva told the students in detail about the importance of space, the history of the National Space Industry in Azerbaijan, ground satellite control centres and their activities, as well as the goal of the CanSat project.

Familiarising the students with the conditions and rules of the competition, N.Aliyeva said that the competition's primary goal was to produce a small satellite model by teams. She also noted that the satellite model should perform the task when descending from a fixed height using a launch vehicle and in the post-descent phase.

It should be noted that CanSat Azerbaijan model satellite competition, organised among university students, aims to raise awareness about the space industry and nurture talented specialists by improving their knowledge and skills. Through the tasks performed within the competition, students acquire theoretical knowledge in engineering fields, such as electronics, mechanics and programming, and apply what they learn in practice. Registration for the contest ends on December 28, and the winners will be awarded cash prizes and the opportunity to undergo an internship at Azercosmos. In the end, they answered the students' questions.
