On April 10, the Francophone week started at the Azerbaijani-French University (UFAZ), operating under the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU).
On the opening event, with the support of the New Azerbaijani Party (NAP) and Azerbaijan-France Alumni Association (AAAF), on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of great leader Heydar Aliyev, a conference entitled "Heydar Aliyev: Azerbaijan-France Relations" was presented by Novruz Mammadov, Former Prime Minister.
Anne Boillon, Ambassador of France to Azerbaijan, Charles Denier, Counselor for Culture and Cooperation of the Embassy and other guests attended the conference. Vazeh Askarov, Executive Director of UFAZ, Member of the NAP board and Chairman of AAAF, welcomed the guests and gave brief information about the life path of Novruz Mammadov.
Novruz Mammadov, the Head of the International Relations Department at the Presidential Administration from 1997 to 2017, shared his memories about the role of the national leader in developing bilateral relations. N. Mammadov recalled his memories as a translator at the first meeting of Jacques Chirac and Heydar Aliyev and the discussions that lasted until the morning about the composition of the Minsk Group. He particularly noted how Heydar Aliyev thoroughly prepared for meetings to convince his interlocutors.
Highlighting the current bilateral relations, he said there have always been ups and downs in the relations between the countries. Making and maintaining relations acceptable to both sides places an additional burden and responsibility on diplomats working in this field.
