On July 31, the International Field Camp for Geophysics closing ceremony, organised jointly by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), ASOIU, and UFAZ, was held at UFAZ. The camp was sponsored by UFAZ, BP, ei Group, the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE Azerbaijan), and the SEG Foundation.
During the closing ceremony, participants delivered presentations before water facility specialists and geophysicists.
During the event, bp's Vice-President Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli and ei Group's CEO Ali Naghiyev greeted the participants and emphasised the significance of such events and the current role of energy.
The winners of the best presentations were announced, and the teams comprised of |Laman Huseynova, Gulnar Mammadova (UFAZ), Ali Mammadov, Fariz Karimov, Inayat Mammadov (ASOIU), and Deniz Ortadan (Istanbul Technical University) were selected as the winners. The participants and winners were honoured with gifts and certificates.
The participants were 25 students from ASOIU, UFAZ, Khazar University, Istanbul Technical University, and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia.
It is worth noting that the field camp, which commenced on July 24, continued for five days in Astara. During the field experience, various geophysical methods were applied, such as Ground Penetrating Radar, Seismic, and Electrical Resistivity, along with geochemical tools such as water pH and conductivity probes. The students learned how to use these tools in the field and analyse and interpret the data. The field experience was supervised by four UFAZ instructors and one ASOIU instructor.
The objective of the field camp was to study groundwater characteristics in the Astara region, including depicting groundwater reservoirs, determining the aquifer's properties and quality, and identifying the water level and subsurface heterogeneity.
