ASOIU commemorates 27th anniversary of Khojaly genocide

On February 25 Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) held an event devoted to the 27th anniversary of Khojaly genocide.

Opening the event, ASOIU Rector, Professor Mustafa Babanli spoke about the crimes committed by the Armenians against the Azerbaijani people in different periods of history. Noting that the Khojaly genocide is the cruelest and the most horrible tragedy committed against humanity, rector, professor M.Babanli emphasized the importance of promoting the massacre committed against civilians in Khojaly from February 25 to 26 and underlined that young generation should actively take part in this action.

Member of Parliament, head of ASOIU's department, professor Huseynbala Miralamov stressed that Khogaly genocide is the unhealed wound and blood memory of Azerbaijan people.  MP H.Miralamov noted that the awareness of the world community on the Khojaly genocide has increased significantly thanks to the campaign carried out by the Republic of Azerbaijan in the direction of legal assessment of the Khojaly genocide, especially the Justice for Khojaly campaign, initiated by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

Head of the ASOIU's Social Studies Department, professor Jamal Mustafayev spoke about the territorial claims, betrayals of Armenians in his speech and analyzed historical chronological events.

Notably, from February 25 to 26, 1992, the Armenian armed forces, together with the 366th infantry regiment of Soviet troops, destroyed the town of Khojaly with the population of up to 7.000 people, civilians, especially children, women, elderly people were killed atrociously.
As many as 613 people, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 elderly people were killed in the massacre. Eight families were totally exterminated, 130 children lost one parent and 25 children lost both. Some 1.275 innocent residents were taken hostage, while the fate of 150 people still remains unknown.
