ASOIU alumni from Germany meet in Berlin

German alumni of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) met on May 16 at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Federal Republic of Germany. The event was organized by the initiative of the German Alumni Friendship Society.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Federal Republic of Germany Ramin Hasanov greeted the guests and talked about ASOIU's position and role in Azerbaijan's economic, social and educational life. Ramin Hasanov noted that under successful development conception determined by the national leader Heydar Aliyev, Azerbaijan has grown into a driving force of the region in the years of independence and is currently a state with an independent policy.   

In addition to sharing information about the development path of Azerbaijan’s oil and gas sector and the "Contract of the Century", Mr. Ambassador also talked about the achievements of the country's economy in the direction of diversification. Referring to Azerbaijan-Germany relations, Ramin Hasanov noted the significance of this year due to two anniversaries – the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 200th anniversary of the German settlements in Azerbaijan.

Delivering a speech on behalf of German alumni, chairperson of the State Fuel Committee of the former German Democratic Republic Andreas Hickman pointed out that German graduates of known as Azerbaijan Oil and Chemistry Institute back then are considered as highly-qualified specialists and hold important positions in Germany. Andreas Hickman expressed his satisfaction with a high-quality education in Azerbaijan, as well as hospitality and interesting social life, and emphasized that the Germans who studied in ASOIU owe Azerbaijan for the success achieved in their career. 

ASOIU's former employee and momentarily residing in Germany, Adil Bayramov informed the guests about the academic and social life and German students of a university where he used to work.

Jamila Ismayilzada, Head of ASOIU International Cooperation Office, greeted the meeting participants on behalf of the university's Rector, Professor Mustafa Babanli. Furthermore, she talked about the university's international relations, international students studying at the university during the years of independence and recently conducted reforms.

The German alumni participating in the meeting shared their memories from the student years in Azerbaijan and talked about their connections with our country. They pointed out that regardless the period, Baku always remains as a city with a modern, progressive and multicultural environment.

The meeting was followed by the demonstration of a video reflecting the meeting of the great leader Heydar Aliyev with the German graduates of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University.  

The event also involved an exhibition containing media materials and photographs featuring ASOIU and the life of the university's German alumni.
