Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) held an event on the occasion of 28 May - Republic Day. Attended by the university's academic staff and students, the event commenced with the State Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
ASOIU's Vice-Rector for academic affairs Associate Professor Gasim Mammadov congratulated the audience with the Republic Day and talked about the activity of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. "This state carried out some great works within only 23 months of its existence. Education was on a particular attention, primary and secondary schools, as well as Baku State University, the first higher education institution in Azerbaijan were established, dozens of young people were sent to receive an education abroad during the leadership of the Republic" - said G. Mammadov.
Head of Social Studies Department Professor Jamal Mustafayev recalled the order of President Ilham Aliyev dated May 16, 2017, on the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. Speaking of Azerbaijan's ancient statehood traditions, J. Mustafayev noted that for a country remaining under colonization of the Russian Empire for over 100 years, declaration of independence in such a complicated historical situation required great courage. Bringing to notice the establishment of the first democratic republic in the Muslim East in Azerbaijan, J. Mustafayev stressed that ensuring democratic rights and freedom, granting equal rights to all the citizens regardless of their ethnic, religious and political affiliation, recognition of women's rights to vote for the first time in the East, declaration of the Azerbaijani language as an official language, organization of the national army and state management agencies and many others were implemented during the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
Head of the Department of the Azerbaijani Language Associate Professor Adalat Abbasov informed about the language reforms conducted in Azerbaijan during the leadership of the republic. Noting that the Azerbaijani language was proclaimed the state language on June 27, 1918, A. Abbasov pointed out that a number of decrees regarding the language were adopted by the Parliament.
