Rector of ASOIU meets with Ambassador of Indonesia to Azerbaijan

Rector of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) Professor Mustafa Babanli met on May 30 with Husnan Bey Fananie, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Rector Mustafa Babanli provided the Ambassador with brief information on ASOIU, Indonesian-Azerbaijani relations in the field of education, teaching process and students of the university. Noting that the university had many students from Indonesia in the early 60s of last century, the Rector said there are currently no Indonesians among international students of ASOIU. The Rector informed that former AzII had 49 Indonesian alumni. He stressed that now the university has enough potential to accept more foreign students.

“Up to 500 international students from 22 countries are currently studying at ASOIU. The teaching at the university is conducted in 3 degrees: Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate. We would like to increase the interest of Indonesian youth in ASOIU again” – said Rector, Professor M. Babanli. Alongside with attracting students to ASOIU, he also noted his interest in learning the experience of the opposite side and establishing links with higher education institutions in Indonesia. Rector M. Babanli underlined that he is ready to collaborate with Indonesian universities in both startup projects and student exchange.

Ambassador Husnan Bey Fananie said that as a Muslim country Indonesia has always appreciated its relations with Azerbaijan. He added that the country leads the list of oil-purchasing countries from Azerbaijan. Giving extensive information about Indonesia's history and industrial areas, as well as higher education institutions, Ambassador Mr. H. Fananie pointed out that there are currently 7.000 universities in Indonesia.

“We have always attached great importance to friendship and brotherhood relations with Azerbaijan. Today, we are trying to work hard to develop our relations in various fields. I've heard a lot about your university. I think that this area is very vital for our countries. Therefore, we are open to any cooperation in the field of education. We are looking forward to new projects within the frames of Indonesian Culture Days which will be held in September, and would like to implement them together with ASOIU” – said the Ambassador.

Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia Husnan Bey Fananie informed that 7 Azerbaijani students are sent to study in Indonesia every year through student exchange programs.
