Rector of ASOIU meets with Ambassador of Mexico to Azerbaijan

Rector of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) Professor Mustafa Babanli met on June 1 with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Mexican States to Azerbaijan Juan Rodrigo Labardini Flores and the Head of Department at the Mexican Petroleum Institute Dr. Victor G. Ortiz Gallardo.

Saying he is glad to see the guests at the university, Rector M. Babanli noted that ASOIU is the first technical higher education institution in Europe and Asia that specializes in oil and gas. Professor Mustafa Babanli informed that the university was one of 3 major educational establishments in the post-soviet world which prepared specialists for foreign countries. Pointing out that nearly 10 thousand students study at ASOIU, the Rector highlighted that some 500 of them are foreign citizens. Rector, Prof M. Babanli provided the guests with detailed information on the university’s faculties and specializations, Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees.

Informing about the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) functioning under ASOIU, Prof Mustafa Babanli mentioned that UFAZ students receive education on 4 majors in conformity with the highest standards, adding that they will obtain the diploma of the University of Strasbourg along with ASOIU.

The Ambassador of Mexico to Azerbaijan Juan Rodrigo Labardini Flores expressed his gratitude to Rector Mustafa Babanli for the warm welcome. Noting that the two countries currently collaborate in many sectors including education, the Ambassador stressed that he will put all the efforts for the further development of these relations.

The Head of the Mexican Petroleum Institute Dr. Victor G. Ortiz Gallardo informed the ASOIU administration about the university that he represents, saying that he is interested in cooperation between the two educational institutions. The meeting also featured discussions on student and teacher exchange, double diplomas between the universities and other questions.

During the meeting, the sides agreed on preparing a memorandum of cooperation between ASOIU and the Mexican Petroleum Institute.
