Rector of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) Professor Mustafa Babanli is attending the work of the II Azerbaijan-Vietnam Friendship Forum dedicated to the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam taking place on September 21-23 in Vung Tau, Vietnam.
Delivering a speech at the Forum, Rector, Prof Mustafa Babanli noted that he is proud to represent a university that received 4 orders from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Saying that ASOIU was the first oil-based higher education institution in Europe and Asia, Rector M. Babanli informed the attendees that known as being AzII in the entire world during the Soviet period, the university provided education to students from all over the world including Vietnam. Prof M. Babanli emphasized that the relations between AzII and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam were continued even after the collapse of the USSR, recalling the contract signed in 2010 with “PetroVietnam” Vietnam State Oil and Gas Group on joint training of specialists. Rector M. Babanli noted that to date AzII had trained 437 engineers, 37 bachelors, 2 masters, 28 candidates of sciences and 3 doctors of sciences for the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
At the forum, Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University was awarded the Friendship Order of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam by the decree of the Head of state. Rector of ASOIU, Professor Mustafa Babanli received a medal of the Vietnam-Azerbaijan Association.
Notably, the initiative to hold the Azerbaijan-Vietnam Friendship Forum was made by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. Thus, while on an official visit to Vietnam in 2014, during the meeting with the Vietnamese alumni of the Azerbaijani higher education institutions, President Ilham Aliyev gave orders to the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Vietnam to hold in Baku the Azerbaijan-Vietnam Friendship Forum. On the basis of this, the I Azerbaijan-Vietnam Friendship Forum was successfully held on May 7, 2015.
