On December 30, the final meeting of the Academic Board for the year 2023 took place at Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU). Traditionally, the Acting Rector of ASOIU, Associate Professor Vazeh Asgarov, began by congratulating Associate Professor Latafat Mammadova, the Head of the Academic Affairs Office, on her birthday on behalf of the members of the Academic Board, wishing her good health and success in her endeavors. Subsequently, Acting Rector, Associate Professor Vazeh Asgarov, announced the agenda items and topics for discussion to the board members, which were then approved.
During the Board meeting, Associate Professor Vazeh Asgarov provided detailed information on the overall performance indicators achieved by ASOIU in 2023 and presented forecasts and specific goals for 2024. Speaking about the university's achievements, he highlighted the improvement of teaching quality, the development of scientific accomplishments, and the successful acceptance of students at all levels – bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs during the ongoing year. Associate Professor Vazeh Asgarov discussed the planned steps to further enhance the dynamism of success in the next academic year. While addressing the university's scientific achievements, he noted that ASOIU colleagues published 350 scientific articles in international databases such as 'Scopus' and 'Web of Science' in the current year. He highlighted that, according to references to ASOIU scholars and their scientific articles in 2023, ASOIU ranked 3rd among higher education institutions in Azerbaijan, 5th along with institutions of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), and 2nd in both directions on the 'Google Scholar' international bibliometric platform. ASOIU achieved a ranking of 1200-1400 for the first time in the QS Ranking, decisively placing it at 271st in the world and securing the 1st place in Azerbaijan in terms of employment indicators.
Continuing with the agenda, Associate Professor Gasim Mammadov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at ASOIU, discussed the preparation status for the autumn semester examination session in the academic year 2023-2024. Additionally, Professor Latafat Gardashova, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs, presented the results of the assessment of doctoral and master's students, information about the publication of scientific journals, and the report on the administrative activities of the administrative department, presented by Associate Professor Sayami Huseynov.
During the board meeting, the Dean of the Faculty of Oil Mechanical Engineering, Associate Professor Ali Hikmat Ahmadov, presented the annual report of the faculty. Furthermore, Dean Yashar Hasanov, in charge of work with international students, provided a presentation on the state of education for international students and doctoral students.
The meeting of the Academic Board included a discussion on the presented issues, exchanging ideas, and adopting unanimous decisions by the board members.
To conclude, Associate Professor Vazeh Asgarov congratulated all university staff, including students, on the occasion of World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day and the New Year. He concluded the session by providing suggestions and instructions regarding the improvement of education and teaching quality, the development of scientific accomplishments, and upcoming tasks at ASOIU.
