On November 4, Acting Rector of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU), Associate Professor Vazeh Askarov, along with university faculty and students, attended a performance of "İrəvanda yanan çıraq" by writer and poet-playwright Hidayat Orujov at the Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theater.
The play, which conveys the message that Irevan is the historical homeland of our ancestors and that Azerbaijani Turks lit the homeland's lamp, was received with great interest by the audience. The performance touched upon several significant historical themes. The story, stemming from the history of the lamp that Shah Ismail Khatai, founder and first ruler of the Azerbaijani Safavid state, entrusted to Revangulu Khan, the governor of Irevan fortress, as a symbol of eternity, deeply explores the anatomy of genocide and deportations perpetrated against our people by Armenian nationalists.
“İrəvanda yanan çıraq” portrays through its characters the cunning of Armenian nationalists who opposed our people's national interests in Western Azerbaijan, their false claims to the lamp lit by Shah Ismail in Irevan, and the exposure of these deceptions. At the play's conclusion, the triumphant rekindling of our extinguished Irevan lamp on the Baku stage symbolizes the defeat of Armenia's treacherous policies.
This work, illuminating our historical destiny, reinforces the unshakeable bonds between our past, present, and future, and creates a deep sense of confidence that the "Great Return" to Western Azerbaijan is not far away.
