The Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) has established an Academic Development Council with the participation of representatives from leading state and private companies. The council aims to ensure the development of undergraduate and graduate programs in alignment with social, professional, and economic changes.
Its objectives include expanding university-industry partnerships, integrating scientific findings into production processes, and designing elective course blocks tailored to meet contemporary labor market needs. The Academic Development Council will address all academic programs offered by ASOIU through its operations in seven designated directions.
Each council division will be supervised by a faculty dean and include a diverse membership comprising department heads, a faculty member, a student, an alumnus, and representatives from two relevant companies for each specialty. Meetings will be held twice per semester, with discussions documented and submitted to the rectorate.
Chaired by the university rector, the council operates through a 15-member Board of Directors. This board includes five permanent members—Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs (chair), Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs, Executive Director of UFAZ, Rector’s Advisor for Industry Relations, and the Career Center Director—and ten rotating members representing various stakeholders, including a dean, a department head, a faculty member, a student, an alumnus, and five industry representatives.
The Academic Development Council convenes twice a year, following the end of each semester, to review proposals and feedback from its divisions. Meetings include discussions of reports on relevant specialties, updates on changes in the industrial landscape, and recommendations for aligning education with emerging requirements.
Decisions made by the Academic Development Council become effective upon approval by ASOIU’s Academic Board.
