In accordance with the relevant Order of President Ilham Aliyev, the centennial of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, which is being celebrated through a series of events, will now be reflected in the name of a century-old oil well in the Balakhani production area. The well, named "ASOIU-100," was officially certified, and the certificate was presented by the President of Balakhani Operating Company LTD, Rovshan Rzayev, to ASOIU Rector, Associate Professor Rufat Azizov.
Within the framework of the "Industry Talks" series, Rovshan Rzayev, the President of Balakhani Operating Company LTD, addressed faculty and students on "The Sustainable Future of the Oil Industry: Where Are We Headed?" During his speech, he emphasized the significant role ASOIU has played in shaping Azerbaijan’s energy sector by producing distinguished professionals, including National Leader Heydar Aliyev and renowned industry experts like Khoshbakht Yusifzadeh. He highlighted that, in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, production companies are in great need of young professionals with innovative thinking and strong technical knowledge: “The responsible and sustainable development of our energy resources is essential to ensure Azerbaijan’s continued prosperity and contribute to global energy security,” Rzayev stated. "Balakhani Operating Company is committed to bridging the gap between academia and industry through collaboration with ASOIU. Together, we will foster innovation, exchange new ideas, and build a sustainable future for oil and gas production in Azerbaijan.”
ASOIU Rector, Associate Professor Rufat Azizov, underscored that ASOIU, with its century-old legacy, stands as one of the country’s most industry-oriented higher education institutions. He noted that for both ASOIU and Balakhani Operating Company, the formation of human capital and serving the nation remain key priorities. "Three core areas define our collaboration—implementing education and research programs that align with the modern job market, ensuring students gain hands-on experience throughout their studies, and developing science-driven innovative solutions for environmental sustainability," he stated.
As part of the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between ASOIU and Balakhani Operating Company LTD. Following this, ASOIU Rector Rufat Azizov presented Rovshan Rzayev with the "ASOIU 100th Anniversary Jubilee Medal."
It should be noted that, in accordance with a Presidential Decree, the "100th Anniversary Medal of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (1920-2020)" is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to science, education, and the oil and industry sectors.
During their visit to ASOIU, the guests also toured the AzII e-Book House and History Museum, as well as the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Friendship Center and the Memorial Complex dedicated to martyr heroes. They laid a wreath at the bust of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
