German expert Gudrun Zoll has come to Azerbaijan to participate in the modernization of the Fundamental library of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) and creation of an online system for three weeks in the frames of the project “Az-BALIBR”.
Mrs. Zoll together with the director Salahat Mahmudova and other staff members of the ASOIU Fundamental library became acquainted with the activities of the library, its collections, ways to develop the electronic catalogues, provide with new books and journals and deliver them to students. The expert got familiar with IRBIS-64, the program that uses the library.
Having worked at libraries and archives in Germany and Africa for a long time, the expert familiarized herself with the projects of the university’s new library. She shared her opinions, suggestions, and recommendations regarding the composition and structure of the new library.
Spending half of her time at the university’s library, Mrs. Zoll is also interested in the libraries of other Azerbaijani universities and programs they use. She has visited the libraries of ADA University, met with the library staff and held broad discussions about the topic.
Notably, visit of the German expert to Azerbaijan is organized via Senior Experten Service (SES), Foundation of German Industry for International Cooperation (GIZ), and the ASOIU International Cooperation Office. SES is Germany’s leading volunteering organization for experts who are either retired or taking some time off work. SES has been supporting specialists since 1983 – all around the world, in every industry and sector.
