ASOIU holds an event in the frames of the project “Become a volunteer”

On December 12 Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) held an event within the framework of the project “Become a volunteer”, supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan Youth Foundation, National Assembly of Youth Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan Volunteering Service.

After commemorating the national leader Heydar Aliyev with a minute of silence, ASOIU Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs, Associate Professor Ata Babayev made a speech, speaking about the Head of state Ilham Aliyev’s attention and care to the youth. Associate Professor A. Babayev noted that being a volunteer is one of the main indicators of patriotism, explaining the experience and knowledge that students gain by volunteering.

Secretary-General of the National Assembly of Youth Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan Maryam Majidova spoke about the role of volunteering in the life of young people, also informing about her personal volunteering experience.

Head of the “Bir” Student-Volunteer Program of the Ministry of Education Tural Abdullazade made a presentation on “What is volunteering?” and December 5 – International Volunteering Day. Providing extensive information on the creation of the “Bir” Student-Volunteer Program, its activities, objectives, benefits, and opportunities offered to the youth, T. Abdullazade also briefly talked about the advantages of the international volunteering program.

Later, Deputy Chairperson of NAYORA Aysun Zeynalova showed a widespread video on the participation of young people in international volunteering programs. She spoke about the benefits of the international volunteering program, opportunities offered to students and expansion of international relations. Moreover, she explained the procedure in order to join the international volunteering program.

The event was followed by the presentation of the award contest “Volunteer of the year”.

A quiz was held among students at the end of the event.
