On December 19 the Azerbaijani-French University (UFAZ) functioning under Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) celebrated the upcoming New Year 2018 with “Voices of UFAZ” concert. ASOIU Rector, Professor Mustafa Babanli, the French Ambassador in Azerbaijan Aurelia Bouchez and other spectators watched the students’ performances with great interest.
After the welcome speech by UFAZ Executive Director Vazeh Asgarov and Secretary General Charlotte Payen, UFAZ student majoring in Geophysics and the evening host Zara Hajizada (also an active SPE member) introduced the first solo by Sanan Najafov (Computer Science, L1) and Aynur Jarrahova (Oil and Gas Engineering, L1).
They chose the very famous “Hallelujah” song and created some magic in the hall when the lights went off and all the guests turned on the phone flashes. The second performance was by the UFAZ Choral Ensemble directed by the Director of the French lyceum Philippe Cirot. UFAZ special guest and a well-known French musician Philippe Ganier – “Filigan” performed the guitar accompaniment for the Choral Ensemble. Then the quintet of Geophysicists took the guests to the eternal summer in Cuba by performing the famous “Havana” song on violin, piano, and guitar.
Ilkin Safarli’s unique improvisation of Bayati Shiraz mugham and Fikret Amirov’s “Men seni araram” (I will be looking for you) created a special atmosphere in the hall. The concert wrapped up by the solo guitar performance by Filigan who demonstrated his very rare ability to mix different music styles (from French anthem “La Marseillaise” to Azerbaijani Naghara motives). After the concert, all the students gathered in the main hall to open their very much-awaited gifts.
