On January 19 the Azerbaijani-French University (UFAZ) functioning under Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) held an event to commemorate January 20 martyrs. The commemoration ceremony titled “We have not forgotten and will not forget the Day of national mourning – the tragedy of January 20” began with observing a moment of silence to remember the victims of the tragedy.

Addressing the event, UFAZ Executive Director Vazeh Asgarov spoke about the horrible event, which took place in Baku on the night of January 19 to 20, 1990, the struggle of the people for national freedom and territorial integrity. Informing about the political situation of that period and the struggle of the people for freedom, V. Asgarov said with the tragedy of January 20 the Azerbaijani people also demonstrated its militancy, resilience and dignity.

A videotape about the tragedy of January 20 was shown at the event. Second-year student Leyla Baghirova then made a speech about the tragedy of January 20.
