On April 25, Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) held a meeting with the President of ANAS, Academician Akif Alizade. ASOIU Rector, Professor Mustafa Babanli made a welcome speech at the meeting attended by the Minister of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov, fellow members of ANAS, and the faculty staff of ASOIU. Rector, Professor Babanli spoke about the recent presidential election in the country, re-election of the head of state Ilham Aliyev by the people supporting his policy, renovation of the Cabinet of Ministers and appointment of new ministers. He congratulated Jeyhun Bayramov on becoming the new Education Minister and wished him success.
Rector, Professor Babanli provided information on the years of study of the prominent scientist of Azerbaijan, President of ANAS, Director of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics Akif Alizade, his scientific activities and contribution to the science of Azerbaijan. He noted that each teacher and employee, as well as students of the university, are extremely proud that the academician is the graduate of ASOIU. Describing Academician Akif Alizade as the organizer of the scientific-technical progress and comprehensive development of education in our country, a personality with encyclopedic knowledge, Rector Babanli said ASOIU employees, especially oil workers and geologists, as well as young scientists always feel his care and support.
Highly appraising this meeting held at such a crucial time of the statehood history, Minister of Education of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov said when the power of modern countries is determined by their scientific potential, Azerbaijan implements envisioned state policy to develop the education sector, deepen scientific research, broaden scientific and educational ties. Minister Bayramov noted that Akif Alizade plays an important role in the process that ANAS always welcomes higher education institutions, designing of education programs, development of science, including geology and geophysics, as well as in the formation of young scientists. He viewed the work done in this area as an important indicator of the integration between science and education. Minister of Education Bayramov noted the recent achievements of ASOIU, renowned in the world as the first Azerbaijani technical institution. He especially stressed the reforms, development of training, expansion of international relations, high admission rates and broadening of the university’s scientific research. Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov noted that the life path of ASOIU honorary alumnus, one of the pioneers of the Azerbaijani science, academician Akif Alizade serves as an example for students. He pointed at the significance of holding such meetings.
Then professor of ASOIU, Academician Parviz Mammadov, Director of Oil, Gas Geotechnology Problems and Scientific Research Institute of Chemistry, Professor Elmira Ramazanova spoke about the contributions of the President of ANAS, Academician Akif Alizade to Azerbaijani science and shared their memories about his activities in the field of geology, student years and academic activities.
President of ANAS, Academician Alizade said the value given to education and science is a great contribution to the future development of science. He recalled his years of study at ASOIU and said that university teachers left a special mark in his life. He expressed gratitude to everyone for their kind words. Academician Alizade noted that the development is impossible without the unity of education and science and stressed that he is pleased to follow the work done at ASOIU to improve the quality of education. Speaking of the novelties realized at ANAS, Academician Akif Alizade emphasized that the Academy now provides Master’s educationç and 17 of 18 Master’s students have submitted their application to pursue their Ph.D. degree.
Then, Rector, Professor Mustafa Babanli presented the President of ANAS, Academician Akif Alizade the diploma of ASOIU Honorary Professor. Rector noted that the title of ASOIU Honorary Professor is being given the second time. The first such title was presented to ASOIU honorary alumnus, First Vice President of SOCAR, Academician Khoshbakht Yusifzade. Rector Babanli announced that the Academic Board of ASOIU decided to create a scholarship named after Akif Alizade. He added that the scholarship will be presented each year to one Bachelor’s student and one Master’s student starting from the 2018/2019 academic year.
