ASOIU and “AzerGold” CJSC train geologists of future

As part of the memorandum signed in May 2017 between Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) and “AzerGold” Closed Joint-Stock Company, work is underway to support education and scientific and technical development, contribute to the formation of human resources specialized in geology and mining field. In accordance with the joint activity plan, 20 students underwent an internship in Chovdar ore processing area in 2017, with 8 more students in 2018.

Students interning in Chovdar ore processing area have been closely engaged in surface testing under field conditions, development of collected materials under camera conditions, mapping works, separation of ore intervals, submission of tests to laboratories, documentation of core-sample materials and have familiarized themselves with the working principle of bore drilling wells. With the support of “AzerGold” CJSC’s specialists, students have also assimilated the working principle of the two-dimensional mapping app (ArcGis), have learned the beginner levels of presenting wells in a three-dimensional regime, downloading lithological and mineral tables through the Gemcom Minex program. Students interning in the Head office are taught CIMM standards, created in 1994 by the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy Engineers. Throughout the practical internship, students have shown their best selves in complying with disciplinary rules and have demonstrated very high results in assimilating the data provided during the internship.

The cooperation between ASOIU and “AzerGold” CJSC is not only limited to practical internships organized for students. In February 2018, “AzerGold” CJSC’s specialists held an extensive presentation for the students of ASOIU concerning geological exploration and non-ferrous metal industry of Azerbaijan. They provided comprehensive information on CV preparation, rules of job interview etiquette. During this year, “AzerGold” CJSC will organize seminars on the features of geological exploration and mining industry for ASOIU students, will hold a presentation on “Prognostic indicators of noble and non-ferrous metal fields in the country and perspectives of involving their reserves in exploitation”, will prepare and present to students experience-based research.

Thus, within the framework of the close cooperation, ASOIU and “AzerGold” CJSC are training the geologists of the future in the field of geology, thereby creating an effective platform for technological development and research in this area.

Notably, targeting the complex development of the mining industry, “AzerGold” CJSC has established a cooperation in different areas with ASOIU and other higher education institutions in order to strengthen its workforce potential.
