According to the order of the rector of ASOIU dated 26.01.2005 No. 04-28, the Department “Heat energy” was formed on the basis of the departments “Steam and gas turbines and thermal power plants” with “Industrial heat energy and water technology”. Subsequently, according to the order of the rector of ASOIU dated September 25, 2019 04-1120 , the Department of “thermal energy” was renamed to the Department of “energy production technologies”.
Head of the department PhD, Assoc. professor Shukur Nariman oglu Nasirov.
About the specialties of the Department
For many years the department has trained bachelors , masters and doctoral students on the specialty “Heat Power Engineering”. The Bachelor's degree in “Energy Engineering” has been started at the department since 2020.
The department trains specialists in the following specialties at The Bachelor's level of Education:
Organization of educational work at the Department
The department has a specialized teaching staff. The number of employees involved in the educational process at the department is 21 people. In particular, 1 professor-consultant, 12 associate professors, 4 teachers and 4 laboratory assistants work.
"Fundamentals of Power Engineering”,” Technical thermodynamics and heat transfer”, “Water preparation and membrane technologies in Heat power engineering”, “Renewable energy technologies”, “Energy production technologies”,” Steam, gas turbines and internal combustion engines”, “Heating, cooling and air conditioning systems”,” Energy management”, “Energy and environment”, “Boiler plants”,” Auxiliary equipment of heat power plants” etc. (a total of 19 subjects), and at the master's level of Education - “TPP and NPP turbines”, “İnstallation and repair of power plants”,” Special issues of theoretical foundations of heating equipment”,” Global problems of modern energy, comparative energy systems and environmental impact”,” Sustainable and renewable energy technology” ,”Green Energy”, ” Solar Energy Systems”,” Wind energy systems”,” Hydrogen technology and fuel cell module”,” Energy Management (a total of 39 subjects) subjects are taught. The department operates laboratories “Thermodynamics and heat transfer and Water preparation and membrane technologies” equipped with educational laboratory equipment.
In order to instill practical knowledge in students, it is organized to hold lectures and laboratory classes of subjects taught at the department with the participation of specialists of enterprises in production of practical orientation.
For the 2023-2024 academic year, 5 full-time doctoral students and 1 part-time doctoral student were assigned to the Department.
Relations of the department with enterprises and organization of experiments.
The department maintains close contact with production. Thus, part of the qualification classes are held at “Sumqayit ES”, “Shimal ES” modern steam-gas plants of “Azerenergy” ASC, “Baku ES” modular power station and “Azeristiliktechizat” ASC. Students visually get acquainted with the equipment at the enterprises, their operating mode, operation and repair, listen to lectures by qualified personnel. Four-month industrial experiments and year-round experiments are also held in these institutions, special courses are organized for them, according to the results of which students are advised to work in these institutions after completing their studies.
Organization of research work at the Department.
The employees of the department carry out research work in the direction of solving urgent problems of thermal energy science. Employees of the department make scientific speeches on actual problems of energy both at domestic and international conferences.
At the same time, scientific seminars are regularly organized at the department, and doctoral students and dissertators attached to the department also hold seminars on their scientific work. Scientific seminars are held in the conditions of interesting discussions.
The department carries out phased research work on the topic” investigation of methods for increasing the effectiveness of modern energy production technologies “in the scientific direction” evaluation and management of the effectiveness of energy systems and equipment". In addition, over the past 5 years, the department has published 110 scientific works, including 10 textbooks and methodological instructions.
