On December 5, the Energy Crisis and Cybersecurity hybrid event was held at the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) to promote the ELECTRON project and other similar projects in Azerbaijan within the framework of the HORIZON 2020 program, to which the university is a participant.
Representatives of the European Commission for Education and Research, Energy and Cybersecurity, as well as influential European organisations in these areas, including project managers related to cybersecurity and the HORIZON program safe energy classification, energy providers, and representatives of cybersecurity organisations, took part in the event online and offline.
Professor Mustafa Babanli,ASOIU Rector, Nijat Mammadli, Advisor to the Minister of Science and Education, Professor Ali Abbasov, General Director of Institute of Control Systems, ANAS, Rauf Hajiyev, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Babek Aghayev, Co-founder and Chairman of the PROSOL CJSC, as well as Christos Dimas, Deputy Minister of Development and Investments of Greece attended the hybrid event. The presentations addressed issues of global concern, such as cyber security, building a security system based on artificial intelligence, environmental and energy protection in the modern era, the application of new methods, the use of alternative energy, increasing resilience and setting new goals.
The event continued with plenary sessions. The meetings included presentations by representatives of the European Commission on the energy crisis in Europe, panel discussions of European and Azerbaijani energy suppliers, and presentations of projects in the relevant areas participating in the HORIZON 2020 program and information security solutions in their energy suppliers.
In addition, the event will host a “Secure Energy” hackathon sponsored by one of the energy providers.
It should be noted that the hackathon aims to solve problems in the direction of cybersecurity of energy suppliers in Azerbaijan and Europe and improve the management of energy networks using smart technologies. The participating teams will receive the support of mentors from Europe and Azerbaijan in developing solutions.
