International Conference held at ASOIU within the framework of COP29

On April 25, a two-day International Scientific Conference titled "Modern Problems of Macromolecular Compound Technology" dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Department of "Technology of Organic Substances and High Molecular Compounds" of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU), organized under the "Green World Solidarity Year" and within the framework of COP29, commenced.

Before the opening ceremony, Acting Rector of ASOIU, Associate Professor Vazeh Asgarov, together with a group of university staff and guests, paid tribute to the memory of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and distinguished ophthalmologist and scientist, Academician Zarifa Aliyeva by laying wreaths on their graves in Fakhri Khayaban.

The conference's opening ceremony was attended by representatives from Azerbaijan, as well as scholars from Turkey, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Egypt, Malaysia, and other countries. Participants included representatives from the Ministries of Science and Education, Ecology and Natural Resources, the State Agency for Science and Higher Education, members of parliament, rectors of various higher educational institutions, and directors of scientific institutes and industrial enterprises.

After the National Anthem was played and a minute of silence was observed in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a documentary film titled "60 Years Dedicated to Research on High-Molecular Compounds" was shown, followed by a flash mob organized by students.

In his opening speech, ASOIU's Acting Rector and the Chairman of the conference, Associate Professor Vazeh Asgarov, welcomed guests and participants, noting that a series of events had been held at the university within the framework of the "Green World Solidarity Year" and COP29. He expressed pride in the significant interest shown both nationally and internationally in the international scientific conference dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Department of "Technology of Organic Substances and High Molecular Compounds", which has made important contributions to the chemical science and industry of our country. Associate Professor Vazeh Asgarov spoke about the rich history of the department within ASOIU's structure, emphasizing its commitment to preserving traditions over the years. He mentioned that in 2023, named the Year of the Great Leader, Heydar Aliyev, ASOIU hosted the "100th anniversary forum "Healthy Food: Realities and Prospects" dedicated to addressing important topics in our modern lives. Today's conference is also being held at a high level within the framework of the "Green World Solidarity Year" and COP29. Finally, Associate Professor Vazeh Askerov wished success to the conference.

Following this, speeches were delivered by Prof. Rauf Hajiyev, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Prof. Aminaga Sadikhov, the Deputy Director of the State Agency for Science and Higher Education; Sadig Gurbanov, Chairman of the Committee on Natural Resources, Energy, and Ecology of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Fazil Mustafa, Chairman of the Culture Committee of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Academician Vagif Abbasov, Director of Y.H.Mamedaliyev's Institute of Petrochemical Processes under the Ministry of Science and Education; Academician Abel Maharramov, Head of Department at Baku State University; Prof. Vagif Farzaliyev, Director - General of Institute of Chemistry of Additives after Academician A.M.Guliyev; Prof. Bakhtiyar Mammadov, Executive Director of Institute of Polymer Materials under the Ministry of Education and Science; and other distinguished guests. They emphasized the importance of the conference and wished success to its proceedings.

International guests from Türkiye, including Dr. Osman Sağdıç from Yildiz Technical University, Professor Ahmet Tutar from Sakarya University's Chemistry Department, and President Prof. Yehia Elmashad from the Egyptian Delta University for Science and Technology, delivered comprehensive presentations. They expressed their awareness of ASOIU's contributions to science and the training of specialists.

Professor Fariz Amirli, the head of the Department of "Technology of Organic Substances and High Molecular Compounds" and the conference's vice-chairman, expressed his gratitude to all participants for their involvement and wished success to the conference proceedings.

The conference, continuing with department meetings at ASOIU, will conclude on April 26. It is worth noting that the conference received over 170 scientific articles and more than 220 theses, with 24 articles scheduled for publication in journals indexed in the "Web of Science" international citation database.
