On April 30, at Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU), a tree-planting campaign was held to mark the 15th anniversary of the April 30 tragedy.
The event, attended by the ASOIU Acting Rector, Associate Professor Vazeh Asgarov, the university's faculty, and relatives of those who lost their lives during the tragedy, began with placing wreaths and arranging flowers at the memorial relief dedicated to the victims of the April 30 tragedy.
Subsequently, a tree was planted on the university campus in memory of those who lost their lives in the tragedy. A plaque with a QR code was installed in front of the tree, allowing access to detailed information about the victims and affected individuals of the April 30 tragedy through the university's website.
Following the tree-planting campaign, a commemorative event continued behind a tea table at the university. Acting Rector of ASOIU, Associate Professor Vazeh Asgarov, addressed the gathering, speaking about the April 30 tragedy. He emphasized that this event, which ended the lives of many valuable teachers and students of the university, was not just a tragedy for ASOA (ASOIU) students and colleagues, but a massacre against Azerbaijani education and humanity. Associate Professor Vazeh Asgarov also noted that for the past 15 years, a commemorative event has been held annually on April 30 at the university, where the memory of those who lost their lives during the tragedy, with the participation of their families and relatives, is honoured and will continue to be remembered.
Subsequently, witnesses of the tragedy and affected individuals, including Zemfira Huseynli, associate professor at ASOIU's Department of Industrial Machines, Khuraman Mammadova, the mother of Shafa Mammadova, a university employee who lost her life during the tragedy, and parents of deceased students, as well as university colleagues who witnessed the tragedy, shared their feelings about that bloody day. The relatives of the tragedy victims expressed their gratitude to the leadership of ASOIU, the faculty, and the student body for perpetually honouring the memory of their loved ones who perished.
