On September 19, Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) held a special event to celebrate Oil Workers’ Day, titled “The Glorious Chapter of National Leader Heydar Aliyev's Oil Strategy – The Contract of the Century.”
The event opened with the playing of the National Anthem of Azerbaijan, followed by a moment of silence to honour National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the country’s fallen martyrs. Attendees then watched the documentary “A History Written with Oil.”
In his opening remarks, ASOIU’s Acting Rector, Associate Professor Vazeh Asgarov, extended congratulations to oil industry professionals, scientists, and the distinguished academic staff who have educated many renowned oil experts, on the occasion of "Oil Workers' Day," which was established by National Leader Heydar Aliyev in 2001. He wished them continued success. Speaking about the special significance of the "Contract of the Century," a key chapter in Heydar Aliyev's oil strategy, Vazeh Asgarov highlighted its crucial role in the development of Azerbaijan’s oil industry, as well as in the sustainable growth of various sectors of the national economy, especially the oil industry and human capital.
Former Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan and distinguished statesman, Hasan Hasanov, spoke about the challenges that preceded the signing of the Contract of the Century, which he described as Heydar Aliyev’s “masterpiece.” He highlighted how the contract came to fruition through Aliyev’s strong leadership, unwavering determination, and steadfast policies.
ASOIU alumni Tofig Mammadov, recipient of the "Tərəqqi" medal and Vietnam’s "Labor" and "Friendship" orders, along with Ilham Shaban, head of the "Caspian Barrel" Oil Research Center and a renowned oil expert, expressed their pride in participating in the event at their alma mater. They also spoke about the lasting importance of the oil and energy strategies established by Heydar Aliyev and successfully advanced by President Ilham Aliyev, emphasizing the profound impact these strategies have had on Azerbaijan’s socio-economic development.
