On October 26, an excursion to the 230 MW Qaradagh Solar Power Plant was organized by the Public Council under the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in collaboration with the Faculty of Power Engineering at Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU).
Led by Associate Professor Aydin Aliyev, Dean of ASOIU’s Faculty of Power Engineering, faculty members and students took part in the visit. During the excursion, students observed the process in which the 800V DC output generated by solar panel blocks is converted to AC in the inverter, then stepped up to 35 kV, and finally to 330 kV via high-power transformers. They gained insights into the efficiency of the process, the equipment involved, and the operation of these systems.
It should be noted that this massive plant, constructed by Masdar, spans 550 hectares and has a total capacity of 230 MW. The facility is equipped with over 500,000 solar panels, each capable of producing 545–550 W and generating electricity on both sides.
