A round table discussion on climate and energy was organized through the collaboration of Azerbaijan's Embassy in Latvia and Productivity Research Institute, operating under the Latvia University.
The event was attended by Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Latvia Elnur Sultanov, Acting Rector of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, Associate Professor Vazeh Askarov, Director of the Productivity Research Institute Inna Steinbuka, high-ranking officials from Latvia's climate, energy, and finance ministries, prominent economists, and other distinguished participants.
Speakers at the round table highlighted that the world is facing numerous threats due to climate change, and emphasized the significant decisions made during the 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku, which created new opportunities for future climate action. They stressed that the global initiatives proposed during Azerbaijan's COP29 Presidency are of particular importance and that the event was organized at the highest level.
Participants were informed that 2024 has been declared the "Green World Solidarity Year" in Azerbaijan, and that several successful projects have been implemented in recent years regarding the "green" transition. They discussed the upcoming tasks in the "green energy" sector and planned regional projects.
The event participants noted that Azerbaijan and Latvia have excellent opportunities for collaboration and experience exchange in the renewable energy sector.
