On December 13, Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) hosted a presentation of the book "Iravan: Historical Facts and Figures" by Farida Safiyeva, Chairperson of the Iravan City Community, Doctor of Sciences in Philology, and Professor.
Opening the event, Acting Rector of ASOIU, Associate Professor Vazeh Askarov, greeted the participants and described the book as a valuable resource, offering a comprehensive study on Iravan’s rich history, centuries-old cultural heritage, and prominent personalities.
Several notable speakers, including Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, Professor Misir Mardanov; Member of Parliament and Deputy Chairperson of the Western Azerbaijan Community Hikmat Mammadov; Academician Abel Maharramov; Doctor of Economics and Professor Avaz Alakbarli; Doctor of Medical Sciences and Professor Pasha Galbinur; and Expert from the Natural Resources, Energy, and Ecology Committee of the Milli Majlis Samad Vakilov, congratulated the author on producing such a significant work. They emphasized the book’s importance as an invaluable scientific resource, shedding light on Iravan’s rich history and renowned personalities.
The speakers highlighted that documenting, systematizing, and publishing information about the history and figures of Iravan is vital not only for preserving historical facts but also for enabling future generations to delve deeper into national and spiritual values. They also stressed the necessity of promoting such research at local and international levels, underlining the irreplaceable role of safeguarding Iravan’s historical legacy for posterity.
In her remarks, author Farida Safiyeva expressed her gratitude to the attendees and ASOIU leadership for their support. She noted that her book was written in response to President Ilham Aliyev’s call to scholars and expressed hope that it would contribute to the government’s large-scale efforts in promoting the realities of Western Azerbaijan on a global scale.
It is worth noting that the book, published with the support of the Agency for State Support to NGOs, recounts the events that took place in Iravan during the deportations of Western Azerbaijanis in the last century and details the city’s distinguished personalities.
