The Minister of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Emin Amrullayev, has introduced Rufat Azizov as the newly appointed rector of the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) to the university staff.
During the event, Minister Emin Amrullayev informed the attendees about the order issued by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, on February 3, 2025, appointing Rufat Azizov as the rector of ASOIU.
The Minister provided insights into Rufat Azizov’s academic and pedagogical background. Highlighting the achievements of Sumgayit State University during Rufat Azizov’s tenure as rector, albeit for a short period, Minister Emin Amrullayev expressed confidence that under his leadership, ASOIU would achieve significant progress in both education and scientific research.
Speaking about the engineers trained by ASOIU, as well as the university’s accomplishments in scientific research and international rankings, Minister Amrullayev extended his congratulations to the newly appointed rector and the university community, wishing them success in their future endeavors.
In his address, Rector Rufat Azizov first expressed his gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for the trust placed in him. He emphasized his commitment to further developing ASOIU with the support of the Ministry of Science and Education and the dedication of the university’s faculty and staff, pledging to justify the confidence vested in him by the head of state. Rufat Azizov also underscored ASOIU’s strong potential to attain the status of a national research university and become one of the world's leading higher education institutions.
Associate Professor Vazeh Askarov, who previously served as acting rector of ASOIU and now continues as the university’s Vice-Rector for Strategic Affairs, expressed appreciation to the academic community for their efforts during the transition period. He voiced confidence that under Rufat Azizov’s leadership, ASOIU would achieve further success.
Concluding the event, Minister Emin Amrullayev characterized ASOIU as a university with great potential and reaffirmed his belief that it would continue to develop as one of the country’s leading higher education institutions in both teaching and research.
