Event dedicated to Geologists’ Day held at ASOIU

On April 7, an event dedicated to Geologists’ Day was held at Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU).

Delivering the opening speech, ASOIU Rector Associate Professor Rufat Azizov welcomed the participants and emphasized that geology is not only a field of science but also one of the key areas related to economic development. Stating that ASOIU aims to transform into a research university, Associate Professor Azizov highlighted Azerbaijan's rich experience in geology and underlined the importance of gradually introducing new ideological approaches in the field. He congratulated all geologists, including those at the Faculty of Geological Exploration, on the occasion of their professional holiday.

SOCAR Vice President Arzu Javadova expressed her satisfaction at being at ASOIU on such a significant day and spoke about the importance of geology for both the country and the region. She also noted that it is no coincidence that Geologists’ Day is traditionally celebrated on the first Sunday of April, as this period marks the beginning of field research activities each year.

Other speakers included the Dean of the Faculty of Geological Exploration, Associate Professor Namad Pashayev; Executive Director of the Oil and Gas Institute, Professor Vagif Gurbanov; Deputy Head of the Oil and Gas Field Development Department at SOCAR, Elvin Ahmadov; and Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Professor Chingiz Khalifazadeh. In their remarks, they discussed the significance of geology as a scientific discipline.

The event continued with a presentation by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) student team and proceeded to the second panel session.
