ASOIU Rector Congratulates Journalists on National Press Day

On July 21, the Rector of the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU), Associate Professor Rufat Azizov, held a meeting with a group of journalists on the occasion of National Press Day.

At the meeting held at the university, Rector Rufat Azizov welcomed the journalists and congratulated them on the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the national press. Speaking about the history of Azerbaijani press, he noted that the national press, which began with the Əkinçi newspaper, played a significant role in the national development of the Azerbaijani people and in strengthening national unity.

In his speech, the rector also touched upon the historic victory achieved by the undefeated Azerbaijani Army in the 44-day Patriotic War under the leadership of the esteemed Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev. He emphasized that journalists demonstrated high professionalism in the information war during this period:

“In the modern era, along with warfare on the battlefield, gaining an advantage in the information war is a key condition. Our professional journalists made great efforts on the information front in the international arena.”

Rector Azizov added that, as in other fields, the national press of Azerbaijan owes its development to the invaluable contributions of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. It was by his decree that, since 1995, July 22 has been celebrated as National Press Day, with various programs implemented to support the development of the press.

During the meeting, Associate Professor Rufat Azizov also spoke about reforms in the field of higher education, briefed journalists on the educational process, facilities, and future projects at ASOIU, and stressed that close cooperation with the media plays a vital role in conveying the university’s innovations to the wider public.

In conclusion, the rector answered journalists’ questions and presented them with letters of appreciation for their productive cooperation and contributions to the development of education, science, and media. The meeting ended with commemorative photographs.
