A joint scientific study conducted by researchers of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) has been published in a Q1-ranked international journal, the Elsevier publication Journal of Alloys and Compounds.
The authors of the article include ASOIU researchers Dunya Babanli and Elnur Orujlu, as well as Alihikmat Ahmadov, Dean of the University’s Faculty of Oil Mechanics.
The article entitled “SnTe–Bi₂Te₃–Te system: Phase equilibria and thermodynamic properties of SnTe-rich ternary phases” is devoted to the investigation of phase equilibria and standard thermodynamic properties of SnTe-based multicomponent metal chalcogenides. Within the framework of the study, a complete isothermal section of the SnTe–Bi₂Te₃–Te system at 300 K, a liquidus surface projection, and several polythermal sections were constructed.
The research employed differential thermal analysis (DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. Using the electromotive force (EMF) method, the standard thermodynamic functions of the Sn₂Bi₂Te₅ and Sn₃Bi₂Te₆ compounds, as well as SnTe-based solid solutions, were determined. The results obtained are of significant scientific importance for the understanding and design of layered telluride materials with promising thermoelectric and topological applications.
It should be noted that this research was carried out within the framework of international scientific collaboration, combining expertise in materials synthesis, structural characterization, and comprehensive property analysis.
