ASOIU to host “Times Higher Education University Impact Forum: Climate Action 2024 in Baku”

The “Times Higher Education University Impact Forum: Climate Action 2024 in Baku” will take place on September 11-12, 2024, in collaboration with the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) and Sumgayit State University (SSU). This event is organized by the Ministry of Science and Education and the global higher education data company Times Higher Education (THE), with a primary focus on addressing climate change challenges, proposing effective solutions, and fostering collaboration between academics, industry leaders, students, and the public.

In preparation for COP 29, university leaders, policymakers, and high-level members of governmental and non-governmental organizations will discuss how climate change is shaping lives globally and explore strategies to mitigate its impacts.

Speakers include prominent figures from the Republic of Azerbaijan, such as Emil Amrullayev, Minister of Science and Education; Vazeh Asgarov, Acting Rector of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University; Rufat Azizov, Rector of Sumgayit State University; Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, Vice President for the Caspian Region at  bp Azerbaijan; Nargiz Hajiyeva, Country Director of British Council Azerbaijan; Samir Mammadov, Country Representative of the United Nations Global Compact; and Fariz Ismayilzade, Vice Rector of ADA University.

Key topics include Sustainable Development Goal 13 (climate action) and how universities are integrating climate action into their research strategies, bringing together key partners to address the climate crisis, and supporting underrepresented groups in this global challenge. Students' roles in greening industries and workplaces will also be highlighted.

A campus tour and gala dinner at Sumgayit State University are planned for registered delegates as part of the forum. The opening ceremony, meetings, and panel discussions will take place at Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU).
